happy friday once again!

this week's update was surprisingly stressful to get out, mainly because I tried to get wayyy too much done. at first, my goal was to implement the build UI, lay a lot of the groundwork for saving and loading caves (AKA starting on save files), add three buildings (making them functional later), and implement eating some items. needless to say, I only got the first two things done, and added only one building. initially, I thought that saving caves would only take a day to set up, but in reality, it took the entire first week... ouch! I think the lesson to take away from this is that creating new systems takes a lot longer than expected.

but let's be more positive and talk about what I actually got done. I did finish (most) of the work for saving and loading caves. this means that when I eventually add the ability to travel between caves, it'll just be simple UI work and adding a new type of "doorway"/"portal" thing to interact with. next, I got a ton done regarding buildings! although it doesn't look like much right now, it took a lot of work, and it genuinely is mostly done. the next step is to make building-specific UIs that interact with the current inventory UIs. I think there are some ways to generalize this.

that's all I have for this week though! I hope to have the "mortar" building done by next update, and then I'll talk about it some more.
